The Currency Stress Index started June at its lowest point of 29 on June 1st before rising throughout the month. Tension was driven up as the dollar hit a one-year high on bets of a Fed rate hike, while Japan repeatedly issued warnings to defend the yen as traders pushed it toward the 160 intervention zone. The ECB also hiked interest rates for the first time since 2023 as an Iran war increased energy costs. Later in the month, pressure eased slightly when the dollar softened after Iran and Israel agreed to halt strikes. Overall, the index reached a peak of 38 on June 24th and finished June with a monthly average of 33.2.
